Patek Philippe New old stock, chronometer, sold by somazzi
The Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 2568-3 is an exceptionally preserved late 1950s to early 1960s dress watch, distinguished here by its double-signed Somazzi dial. Its 18k yellow-gold case has the clean, architectural presence of the period, with faceted extended lugs, a slim round profile, and an understated champagne dial with applied gold baton indexes. Beneath the Patek Philippe signature, the Somazzi name at 6 records its original retailer connection to the historic Lugano jeweller. This example is preserved as new old stock in unused condition and comes with the bespoke Patek Philippe presentation box made for the watch, along with its original chronometer certificate.
The Ref. 2568-3 is the time-only version of this elegant Calatrava family, without subsidiary seconds and therefore with an unusually open, minimal dial. Its identity rests on proportion rather than ornament: a 33 mm case only about 6.5 mm thick, sharp faceted shoulders, slim baton hands, and restrained applied indexes. Power comes from the Calibre 23-300, one of the great manual Patek Philippe movements of its era. Designed for thinness and chronometric precision, it combines a Gyromax balance, free-sprung Breguet overcoil, and adjustment for heat, cold, isochronism, and five positions.
The Somazzi signature transforms this already refined Calatrava into a record of a historic Patek Philippe retail relationship. Founded in Lugano in 1860, Somazzi has retailed Patek Philippe watches since 1906, and the retailer name printed beneath 6 gives the dial a discreet but highly personal second identity. The bespoke Patek Philippe presentation box and original chronometer certificate are important surviving documents of the watch complete original presentation. Preserved in unused new old stock condition, the crisp case geometry, untouched dial, and complete accessories offer an unusually direct impression of how this Somazzi-signed Ref. 2568-3 left its original point of sale.
