Vacheron Costantin , Chronograph in Pink Gold,Ref 4072

The Vacheron & Constantin Reference 4072 was produced from 1938 through the 1970s, spanning three decades and multiple configurations. Among all the variants produced, the pink gold examples are the rarest: total production of the 4072 in pink gold is estimated at approximately 363 pieces across the entire run, compared to a far larger number in yellow gold. This example, from 1960, elevates that rarity further with a combination that is exceptional even within the pink gold production: a pink dial with pulsation scale "Gradué Pour 30 Pulsations" and a matching 18k pink gold bracelet of distinctive and peculiar design. It is accompanied by the original box.

Collector's Note

The pulsation scale, calibrated for 30 pulsations and used by physicians to measure heart rate directly from the wrist, is one of the least common dial configurations found on the 4072. Its presence on a pink dial, itself already rare within the pink gold production, creates a combination that very few collectors will ever encounter in a single piece. The pink gold bracelet, with its distinctive and individual link design, completes the watch as a fully coherent ensemble in a single metal throughout, from case to bracelet to dial.

The Antoine Gerlach casemaker hallmark (Geneva Key No. 4) on the inside of the caseback confirms the provenance of the case construction. Gerlach was among the most respected independent casemakers in Geneva during the mid-twentieth century, responsible for some of the most architecturally refined cases produced for the great Genevan manufactures. The presence of the original box further documents the history of this watch and confirms that it has been preserved with care since leaving the manufacture.
